School Spirit

November 11, 2009 at 5:52 PM (PRCA 3330)

It’s homecoming week here at Georgia Southern University! There are lots of different things going on this week. Homecoming elections, t-shirt sales, the “Blue Out” are just a few of the things going on on campus this week. I think everyone can show school spirit in the smallest of ways even by just wearing school colors, attending a game, or participating in campus activities.

I personally am not too involved with homecoming week, but I do think that I show school spirit. Ways that I show my school spirit is by wearing school attire, attending games, buying tickets for events, and many other ways. I know many people think of cheerleaders when school spirit is brought to mind, but school spirit can be shown by everyone!

Favorite Book/Reading

November 5, 2009 at 10:06 PM (PRCA 3330)

Ok so I am pretty guilty of not being a huge reader especially while in school. I did find myself reading quite frequently last summer when I worked at a daycare. I would find myself extremely bored during the kids 2 hour nap time so I decided I would try reading to keep from napping myself.

My dad is a huge reader. He goes to the local library at least twice a week if that tells you anything. He had a few books by John Grisham and I had heard of some of the movies based off of his books so I figured I would give it a try. I chose “A Painted House”. To my astonishment I really enjoyed the book. I found myself even reading at night before going to bed I liked the book so much. I ended up finishing the book by the end of the week and moved on to more books but that would have to be my favorite book that I read voluntarily and enjoyed it.

What do I want to be when I grow up???

October 21, 2009 at 11:35 PM (PRCA 3330)

Well as of right now in my life I am looking to work in the Public Relations field, but if I could choose absolutely anything and know that I could be taken care of I do not think I would choose something that requires multiple page papers, overnighters in the library, or dollar after dollar in student loans. I would want something fun, exciting, and SIMPLE!!!

The first thing that came to my mind was to be a famous singer or actor because they are obvioulsy LOADED, but I don’t think I would want to give up my private life for something like that. Looks like I am going to have to make up a dream job for myself and if this exists anywhere I need info ASAP. I would want to be a professional shopper (fun right?). I love, love, love to go shopping. While I would rather it ultimately be for myself I could live with shopping for others. I am not talking grocery shopping I am talking about clothes, shoes, accessories, the works. Of course I would want a salary that would able to to afford everything that I need in life, and I am not just talking about food, water, and shelter. I am talking about the fancy stuff. I want to be a professional shopper that makes bank! I realize that this is a made up dream job, but hey it’s a dream right?

Pet Peeves

October 16, 2009 at 12:05 AM (PRCA 3330)

There are plenty of things that I could sit here and type about that get under my skin. Unfortunately I don’t have the time  to list them or would you want to take the time to read them all. One of the things that just really irritate and have since grade school is when a teacher erases something off of the board and misses a little portion of it. I am not sure why that irritates me so much but I just think if you are going to erase something get it all. If a teacher leaves a spot on the board I tend to focus on that one spot and get more and more irritated to the point that I have at times gotten up and wiped it off (in high school). The spot may not be big at all it could be as big as my fingernail, but if I notice it that will be almost all that I notice for a while. I find myself now trying to look away when a teacher erases hoping that I will not notice any unerased spots and have found that it helps a little, but I can still spot the spots (hah).

I could have talked about a lot of different things, but this one in particular is one that has gotten to me for a while!

Spring Music Act

October 7, 2009 at 10:39 PM (PRCA 3330)

rolling stonesWho doesn’t like the Stones?!?!?! Even though Brian Jones is no longer with us the performance would still be amazing. “Satisfaction”, “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”, “Start Me Up”, are just a few examples of songs that the Stones rocked. While not everyone may be a fan of the infamous Rolling Stones I bet most people can recognize their songs and attempt to sing along with the chorus.

A little over a year ago I went to see a Rolling Stones tribute band play and I think that is what brought me back to my love of their music. I never stopped liking it I just didn’t listen to it as much, but when I saw the tribute band and had such a good time just because the music is so good I couldn’t stop thinking that it would be 10x’s better to be able to hear the real thing. So if I had to choose what performer I would want to come to Georgia Southern for the spring concert I would choose The Rolling Stones. I think that this would be a performer that anyone can enjoy!

Favorite TV show…the best of all time!!!

October 1, 2009 at 6:57 PM (PRCA 3330)

friendsFriends is by far one of my favorite television shows. I do tend to watch A LOT of television, but I can always watch friends and be completely content. I picked the show up from my mother who was obsessed with it while it was still on the air. It is because of her that I am a Friends-fanatic today. Fortunatley my roommate is obsessed as well and has all of the seasons on DVD! So now I can pop in a DVD and watch what ever episode I want whenever I want.

Friends really has no specific point it is just the lives of six people in New York. While that may sound boring to some people who are not regualr viewers of Friends, the lives of the charcters are extremely amusing. Each character has some unique trait about them. It is almost like the producers picked characteristics from different cliques and made them into one group of friends. I strongly suggest that you watch Friends at some point and hopefully you’ll love it just as much as I do.

Obama’s Healthcare Plan

September 24, 2009 at 6:49 PM (PRCA 3330)

obamaTo be honest with you I can not really give my opinion on Obama’s healthcare plan. I can safely say that I am politically challenged. I have a hard time grasping and understanding the full concept of this plan. I have heard so many things about it I can’t keep it straight. I have heard that healthcare was going to be available to all persons, that abortion will be added into the plan, and other things.  Along with all of that I have heard argument after argument about why people disagree or agree with the plan. However every time I hear an argument it is about a different aspect of the healthcare plan so I have a hard time piecing every thing together to get a full understanding of what Obama’s plan is. So I can not sit here and say that I agree or disagree, like or dislike the new healthcare plan.

I know that I should really be more in tune with these types of things because ultimately it will affect me in some way, maybe not right at this moment but some time in the near or far future. After writing this blog I will have to make myself sit down at some point and do some research! Maybe then I won’t just have to listen to all the arugments around me, I can actually join in and voice my opinion.

Low Supply of Flu Vaccine

September 16, 2009 at 2:31 AM (PRCA 3330)

flu2

People are constantly hearing about the swine flu. While it is not life threatening, in most cases, it is still a concern for many. Unfortunately the flu season has not even hit yet, which causes even greater concerns. There is a vaccine for the swine flu, but there isn’t enough of it to help all of Americans.

For my PR Writing class we had to chose a news article and discuss why it was newsworthy. I chose Vaccine Supply May Miss Swine Flu Peak. I felt that because this was something that a lot of people are talking about especially where I go to school at Georgia Southern University. This issue was something that people would be interested in. People want to know when they are at risk of catching something. You always here when there is some bug going around. This article not only informed me, but I also passed the information along to others so I knew that this story had to be newsworthy if even I was talking about it in conversation.

The article talks about how the vaccine created for the swine flu is effective, but that there isn’t enough to help everyone out. It says that the peak of the regular flu season usually doesn’t hit until January, but they are predicting that the peak of the swine flu will be earlier than that. That causes problems because if the swine flu peak comes early there will not be enough vaccine for the people that will need it. The vaccine will help some, but for others they will have to be extremely careful and carry lots of hand sanitizer!
